Tom was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Orem, Utah, and graduated from Orem High School in 1994. He graduated from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah in 2002 with a B.A. in Psychology. He then served three years in the U.S. Army from 2003 through 2006 as an infantryman in Fort Benning, Georgia. During his time in Georgia, Tom earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Troy State University. He works as a Computer Lab Assistant and Adjunct Professor of Business at Snow College. He has worked as an Activity Staff and Case Manager at Sorenson's Ranch School since May of 2012, and started teaching in January of 2014. Currently, Tom teaches Computer Technology, Personal Finance, Geography, and Art History.
Tom's family consists of his wife since 2003, Marlo, and two sons, TJ (born in 2005) and Darrell (born in 2007). The family enjoys camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, travelling, and spending time together as a family as much as possible. He is also actively managing his own residential rental property business, which houses four families in Richfield, Utah.
